From Enzyme Screening to Application Validation: Connecting the Full Biocatalysis Chain from Discovery to Commercialization

Enzymes are nature’s sophisticated biocatalysts. Boasting high catalytic efficiency, excellent specificity, mild reaction conditions and eco-friendliness, they are gradually replacing traditional chemical processes in food processing, animal feed, textiles, papermaking, biopharmaceuticals, biodegradation, fine chemicals and other fields, and have become a key enabler of green manufacturing. However, an enzyme with promising theoretical potential still needs to go through a long and uncertain technical pipeline before industrialization: screening candidates from massive genetic resources, biochemical characterization and protein engineering, fermentation production and formulation development, followed by phased application validation, to ultimately satisfy three critical requirements: process adaptability, cost control and regulatory compliance. This workflow from enzyme screening to application validation forms the core pathway for biocatalysis industrialization.
